課程概述

Course Description
For this semester we’ll do lots of cultural readings.
Students are required to give quick and reliable responses to the readings assigned or to videos shown in class; active participation in group discussion is therefore strongly encouraged, and definitely required.
Basically, articles assigned for reading will be extensive and informative; a detailed syllabus is to be distributed in the very first or second week of next semester. The objectives of reading materials selected are to explore cultural to other fields in the British and American context, with a high hope to stimulate independent and critical thinking. For example, there will be selections from novels with film adaptations, and related supplemental news and articles. American TV shows are also part of the cultural feast and we’ll some as desserts. Aside from discussions in class, for readings, students are required to do 3 short written response papers (maximum 2 typed pages).
Then hopefully at the end of this semester, students will have gotten a whole lovely package of in-depth thinking of current cultural issues.

Course Objectives
Students will learn to build up new vocabularies and organize knowledge from reading articles of different fields as well as from watching videos; take-home assignments will better their understanding of what they have learned in class. Finally, sharing and doing reviews help correct and polish up their style in expressing ideas.

課程要求

Requirements:
Be active in group discussion, quick in responding to questions, enthusiastic in suggesting ideas, and please do not late for class. Participation, performance, and attendance are the basic attitudes of learning. Most importantly, bring your passions to the classroom!
